Group 4 Film Opening

Monday 24 March 2014

Alice Cahill, Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our opening sequence, we focused on the representation of gender and age, we used some stereotypical representations of British teenagers, which could be seen as challenging typical americanised representations of teenagers.

Gender:

To show how we represented gender in the two characters in our media product, I have made some character profiles:

Age:

As our film targeted towards the teenage audience we obviously had to focus on the representation of age.

Media texts such as Skins brand young people as rude, loud and antisocial.

Skins (TV Series) (2007 - present)

In Michael we chose to challenge these stereotypes and represent the opposite side of teenagers, which the audience can empathise and feel love towards. We made the characters, such as Michael, loveable and thoughtful by showing him cry over his break-up.

We also represented the typical teenage relationship with the awkward break-up, which is common of teenage rom-coms

Similar media texts we referred to were

The TV Series, The Inbetweeners (2008 - 2010), when Carli breaks up with Simon.
